Horrible just horrible new format
Not much you can say , I have been buying DK travel books for 20 years and they were the best, but now the new format they are using is just plain garbage. Dumbed down information, cheap thin blurry paper, awkward format, they are now just a complete mess , the old format was great clear, crisp, high contrast non fuzzy images, now it is just rubbish. A great one of a kind approach to travel books has now been destroyed. The good star ratings must be for the older version editions of the book, because the one I have has only been out a few weeks
don't like the new version
I'm always a big fan of DK travel guides, but when I received this new version of the Florence travel guide, I'm so disappointed!! I have the old version of the "Italy" travel guide and compare the Florence pages with the new version. the Old version has much much better picture quality, better information, and better editing!! I really hope DK can bring the old versions back or at least have them as an option since the new version is like a lightweight format, and maybe some people prefer that........
Less is not always more.
Once upon a time, DK’s Eye Witness Travel Guides were the best one could get. The company’s decision to eliminate information such as regional weather patterns, or noting which popular cultural sites offered the possibility of reservations to avoid long lines during peak seasons (such as, among others, the Uffizi and the Tomb of the Medici), make this new slimmer guide less useful than previous editions. Savvy travellers might do well to seek an earlier DK edition to Florence & Tuscany.
Good but Not Great
Eyewitness did a decent job this time. I usually get Eyewitness due to the amount of photos in the guides. It gives me ideas for my own photographs. The guide itself as always has a small and bad selection of food recommendations. The rest of the guide itself includes the history and tells you about the main highlights. It never takes you off the beaten trail. For a general idea of the surrounding area and to help start plan your trip, this would be a good guide. If you want something more serious, just search around on the internet. The authors of these guide books most of the time have never visited the sites / country [heard this directly from someone that works in the industry].
Great guidebook
On my second trip to Florence I purchased this book. The maps are great and provides lots of useful information about the surrounding towns in Tuscany. I used it in Siena. Pisa, lucca and Florence. I will look for this brand when traveling to new destinations. I usually buy Rick Steves books but I liked this one much more.
DK Eyewitness Travel guides are the best on the market
So much information laid out easily for users. I have traveled across the globe and for directions, travel ideas, top locations, hotel and food recommendations are summed up in a high quality book. It is like having a city or country National Geographic book to use in traveling.
Make sure you remember it!! Haha
Has some really good info and easy to follow!!! We went on our trip and forgot the book but still came back and got more explanations for what we saw!!!
Can't go wrong with DK.
It helped us with our preplanning of our upcoming trip. We always use DK Eyewitness books. I have a library of European cities and have yet to be disappointed. The maps and the insights are invaluable.
These are my favorite travel books
These are my favorite travel books. I probably like them because they are so very visual, as well as informative. A bit heavy to travel with, but my go to books.
Great travel guide
Great travel guide. Just what I was looking for. Helps me prepare for my upcoming trip to Italy
