Lots of smashing with minimal effort
While I have yet to use this on a car window, I have used this hammer already on some glass shower doors I took out of the bathroom and didn't want to take to the dump. I disassembled the metal frame before breaking this thing apart and had originally planned on using a hammer to smash them. However, after whacking the glass pretty solidly with the ball hammer, the doors were still intact. One tap with minimal force from this hammer and the first piece of glass basically disintegrated into thousands of tiny shards (without flying up in the air either). I was able to sweep the pieces up easily and then repeat with the second glass door. Mind you, these were about 4.5X3 foot pieces of glass, so pretty big. I put the hammer back in my car where hopefully I will never have to use it. However, I'm glad I could see how effective it is first hand in a non-emergency situation.

A Small Price to Pay for Added Safety
The product is extremely well made for the price and I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to add this safety feature to their automobile. Seconds matter when in a difficult situation and I feel more confident having this within my reach. I had envisioned mounting this to the carpet next to my my right leg in my 2011 F-250 but the contours of the truck are not compatible with the pin system inside the base that allows easy and secure mounting. However, I did find a great place under the console in the back floor board that would allow me to easy reach it in an emergency situation. It could easily be place in a console or door pocket as well. I did not test the razor blade but positioned it on my seat belt as if I was going to cut it and it seems that the angle was right to do the job.

A MUST BUY for EVERY car!!!
Love these! I have them in both of my cars. Two ways to attach: first is with a pin type. just push into the car wherever you want. second is with screws. For one car (and older one) I use the first method which I placed the black holder up against the ceiling and there's two silver pins that are built in and you just push from the center of the black piece to the edges... the pins will essentially dig into the roof fabric so you can't see them but are strong enough to hold the hammer. For the other car (brand new) I had to come up with a new method since I have a sun roof that if so big I couldn't put the hammer on the ceiling. And since I want the hammer accessible from all five seats in the car I decided to wrap velco (soft side) around the hammer handle and then place velco (rough side) down by the center console where a rear passengers feet would go. That way anyone can get to it in an emergency. In this car I did not use the black holder at all. It is always better to have something before you need it!!!

If the policeman on the news the other day had one of these he would not have been run over
I wish everyone had one of these tools to save lives. I saw a policeman on the news the other day run up to a car that was crashing into police cars trying to get away. The policeman ran up and banged on the front side window and then the car drove over his foot. If he had used one of these tools he could have broken the side window and dove in to stop the driver instead of getting his foot run over. I bought one of these for my children to save themselves and my grandchildren.

Mount is secure, appears to be well made.
Fortunately I haven't had to use this product yet but the mount that comes with it holds the hammer securely and is easy to mount with self tapping screws. It also has what appears to be a way to use zip ties to mount it. I much prefer this setup over a keychain breaker since it seems like it would be easier to access and it doesn't take up pocket space.

Top notch emergency tool I hope to never use
I'm a qualified rescue diver and this tool is well-made and serviceable in an emergency when you want to egress your vehicle mount it near the center or someplace you can reach it easily, even if the airbags go off. Well designed, well made, and I hope neither ou nor I will ever have to use it. If you ever find yourself in your vehicle in the water, leave your seatbelt fastened, breathe as you can, slow down and think of what you will do next = steady yourself, and grab this tool with one hand. When the car stabilizes, be sure you have a full breath of air, cut the seatbelt - it might not release easily with the buckle - and when the water is pretty much high and you have equalized the pressure in and outside the car, egress. The punch side of this life hammer works on the glass dry or wet, so you have a way out even if the electric winder fails.

Necessary for every car!!! It's only about $15 and can save your life. Think about it.
Place this somewhere that it WON'T GO FLYING ABOUT in the car if it tips upside down, such as in a sever car accident. Think, if you get in a car accident and your belt is stuck, what will you use to get yourself out. The life hammer will do it. IT WILL NOT WORK if you keep this in the glove box where you cannot reach it. Keep this near you or try to actually put two screws under your dash panel . . . like near the cup holders so that it is in front of your stick shift or in front of your gear box. I have not tested the hammer part thank God but the cutter is sharp. I have tested this on some thin rope I had around a container I had in my garage. The other smaller hammer-like styles out there just don't do it for me. I think this is the best one and is the most reliable. It is recommended by some Dutch highway authority or something like this.

Mountable and Easy to Use
After reading a few other reviews, I was worried I might get a knock off LifeHammer, but I thoroughly inspected it and compared it to LifeHammer’s actual website and product information sheet and al of the details and photos match, so I’m confident this is a legit LifeHammer. I bought one for my car and for my husband’s car. The Amazon product description matches except it says the product is 8” long, but it’s not quite 8”. All other measurements are exact. Pro’s: •One side Glows in the Dark (Make sure that side is up so it will glow. There’s a sticker that tells you which side glows.) •The handle is long enough that you can easily grip the LifeHammer and hit the window. (You’re supposed to hit the window near a corner. Look at the corner, then go towards be center of the window in a diagonal and hit it around 3-4 inches in.) •Easy to use (Pull the seatbelt tight with one hand and use the blade on the life hammer to cut through the seatbelt with the other hand. You don’t want any slack in the seatbelt when you’re trying to cut it.) •Multiple ways to install it (The two options they provide are 3 areas to add screws, or retractable needles that allow you to mount it on a fabric area of your vehicle. Make sure to mount it within arms reach. If your seatbelt is locked, it needs to be where you can reach it. You can also use zip ties to mount the black stand and then push the LifeHammer into the holder. In case of an emergency, Cut your belt off first, then your passengers, then knock out a back side window or the window near the trunk in order for everyone to escape.

This should be included in all cars
This is a emergency tool, not for everyday. What you should know? This is plastic and metal. Has hole on the back to mount, and clips in and out for easy removal. Put where you can reach it without removing your seat belt, and without moving.... DON'T PLACE THIS IN THE GLOVE BOX OR CENTER CONSOLE, you might not be able to get to it in a crash. Like high vis color, mounting holes, clip in holder. Dislike Seems a little flimsy, but I can deal with that as long as it gets me out of my truck if I need too. Similar Items I've tried other dollar store types and this is a ton better without shelling out 100$ for a all metal one. Quality and shipping Shipping was no issue, and quality should be fine. More than likely it will be a one time use item, and belt blade seems week(I also always carry a pocket knife) But The hammer portion works well, tried it on some old car glass, hit it hard but the point will do the rest. Overall everyone needs something like this in their truck or car. PRACTICE with this, don't wait to figure it out when your bleeding from you head and trapped in a car or in the water. KNOW YOUR TOOLS, IT WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE.

This newer version of the hammer—with the curved, black ...
This newer version of the hammer—with the curved, black mount behind—has sliding pins behind the mount that attach the mount to the carpet of the car. The older, t-shaped black mount, does not have these pins and you'll have to either screw (bolt, say the instructions) the mount someplace, or rig something with Velcro or double-sided tape (say the instructions). Buy the one that's illustrated with the curved mount; you'll still have the other options.
